Fashion Details Lecture Week 6 Recap

Observation of Fashion Details in High End Stores: ION Orchard

Upon further research on these garments, I have a better understanding of the fashion details and can describe them better.

1st Store : Gucci

A Sleeveless Dress

This Gucci sleeveless dress costs $1700. It is made of Gabardine jersey. Gabardine is a tough, tightly woven fabric. The dress is above knee length and is of 100% nylon.

Unique Details of the Dress

The dress consists of green and red box pleats trimmed on the collar and arm openings. The front has a moulded plastic cap teeth with a ring zip slider.
I found this piece very unique because despite it's bold colours, it still looks very clean and minimalistic.

Position of the bust darts can be clearly shown on the flats as oppose to the actual picture. There is also topstitching around the pockets.

This beautiful skirt cost $890. It is a knitted high-waisted lurex A line skirt and it is above knee length. Lurex is a type of yarn which incorporates a glittering metallic thread.

Unique Details of The Skirt

This skirt is knitted with a blend of black and gold lurex which makes the skirt glimmer under light. It is quite uncommon to see a knitted garment glittering. The skirt is also lined with silk georgette.

2nd Store: Burberry

Burberry are known for their classic trench coats but this particular one stands out a little bit more than the rest. This double breasted trench coat is in a nude gold colour made of cotton gabardine.

Gabardine is originally invented by the founder of Burberry. It is a type of a novel wool which is ripped resistant, creaseproof and water repellant, yet remain porous and offers good ventilation for cool and comfortable wear.

Instead of normal round buttons, this particular trench coat has a full shank gold button the Epaulette.

The is also a Hook and Eye fasteners on the collar for more coverage when the weather gets cold. The Napoleon lapels on this coat is trimmed black and red cord.

Back Details

The belt is quilted with gold D-rings to weigh them down.

A back vent tab for added flareness.

3rd Store: Dior

This may look like a 1 piece at first but it is actually detachable and made into a 2 piece consisting of a cream asymmetrical outer sweater and a black shift dress underneath.

Unique Details of the Sweater

This asymmetric wrap over sweater has a custom made engraved Dior gold ring button at the front for closure. It is a ring button which I find very captivating although it is the tiniest detail on it.

The sleeves are ruffled and gathered together forming a mutton shaped sleeve.

The shift dress consisted of a rounded pocket with a tab. In addition to that, there is also a double welt pocket above the round pocket.

Other Groups' Recap

There was this specific dress from Dior that has appeared in many of the groups' presentations.

Back View

This $14k dress has hand-stitched gold floral embellishments on it which is probably the reason of the price. It has a title skirt with a round armhole and a V neckline. The waist is wrapped with a magnetic belt decorated with gold embroidery.

I can see the reason why many of my classmates picked this dress because of it's gorgeous gold embroidery and the overall look of it. It looks simply magical.

Another unique piece that captured my eye was a leather jacket which is metallic in silver chrome. I thought that this piece of garment was really unique because of the metallic material on a letter jacket instead of  regular black leather. This jacket is from Louis Vuitton and it cost $7,900.

This jackets has a welt pocket with a metallic zipper. It also has a high collar with a button closure.

Fashion Details Lecture Week 5 Recap

Observing Fashion Details during Ion Orchard Trip

1st Store: Gucci

The store was full of colour and it was really overwhelming for me.

1st Garment

From my personal knowledge, I can describe that this Gucci dress has box pleats trimmed around the neckline and arm openings. It also has a a plastic zipper at the front of the dress. It was of a cobalt blue colour and the box pleats was of a dark green and red colour.

2nd Garment

The next garment that me and my group members found interesting was this knitted skirt that has glittering yarn that was knitted together with the black and white yarn.

2nd Store: Dior

The store was very minimal and chic looking.

3rd Garment

A detachable 2 piece with a cream-coloured outer wear and a black sleeveless dress.

Gold ring button on the outerwear.

Ruffled Mutton Sleeves

Weird and unique egg-shaped pocket.

It seems to be a combination of 2 pockets: A U shaped pocket with a double welt pocket above it.

3rd Store: Louis Vuitton

4th Garment

Louis Vuitton is commonly known for their trench coats. This specific trench coat is very unique because of the gold hardware and cord trimming on the lapels.

A quilted belt with D- rings.

A huge gold button on the shoulder area of the trench coat.
